Goodness of life and wisdom in teaching must be the criteria for choosing the one to be made abbot or prioress...The Rule of Benedict, Chapter 64

About Us
Our Monastic Council      Our Priorities

Sister Cecilia Dwyer, O.S.B., having
served as prioress from 1987-1999,
was installed for her fourth term of office on June 21, 2003.  Sister Cecilia is the tenth prioress of the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia.

"Like the woman leavening her dough, we are committed to the leaven of happiness for the human community and because of this we surrender ourselves to God minute by minute, person by person, day after day.  We are each responsible for our monastic hearts, for nurturing our spirits, for strengthening the bonds of community which allow us to stay at the table of human need.  This is our gift for the future."  Sister Cecilia Dwyer, O.S.B., Installation Address, June 21, 2003.
